Ukraine intercepts drones, strikes Russian oil terminal, and tests new defense tech

Ukrainian air defenses intercepted 124 of 155 Russian strike drones on June 8, while Ukrainian forces struck a Russian oil terminal in Novorossiysk and a deployment point in Luhansk. New autonomous drone tech was also tested.

Ukrainian air defenses intercepted 124 of 155 Russian strike drones, including Shahed and "Parody" imitator types, launched from various directions on the night of June 8. Twenty drones impacted 17 locations in Ukraine's northern, southern, and eastern regions. Concurrently, Ukrainian forces, specifically operators from the 1st Separate Center of Unmanned Systems and Special Operations Forces, struck the "Grushova" oil terminal in Novorossiysk, Russia, causing a fire at the "Sheskharis" complex. The extent of damage is being assessed. Separately, on June 7, Ukrainian forces destroyed a temporary Russian deployment point in Shchastia, Luhansk, targeting the 5th Cossack reconnaissance and assault brigade "Terek." Ukraine also successfully combat-tested a new autonomous drone technology in Kharkiv Oblast, automating 95% of Shahed interception, with plans to scale its deployment.
