ICC prosecutor suspended; Ukraine repatriates prisoners; Chornobyl allegations persist

The International Criminal Court's Chief Prosecutor, Karim Khan, has been suspended over harassment allegations. Ukraine repatriated 186 citizens, with calls to prioritize civilian exchanges for an estimated 20,000 held civilians.
The International Criminal Court's Chief Prosecutor, Karim Khan, has been suspended from his position pending an investigation into harassment allegations. The Bureau of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute made the decision based on a UN internal oversight report, though Khan's legal team has stated the action is unlawful.
Meanwhile, Ukraine recently repatriated 186 citizens from Russian captivity, with only one being a civilian. A human rights expert underscored the critical need to prioritize civilian prisoner exchanges, estimating approximately 20,000 civilians remain held, suggesting this issue should precede any negotiations.
Separately, allegations continue regarding Rosatom employees' involvement in the occupation of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant. This follows a reported Russian drone attack on a nuclear waste storage facility within the Chornobyl zone on June 7, 2026. In the Zaporizhzhia region, Russian forces conducted 884 attacks on 46 settlements, resulting in two fatalities and 38 injuries.
