Former South Korean president sentenced to additional 30 years for drone operation
Former South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol has received an additional 30-year prison sentence for ordering a drone operation into North Korea, allegedly to provoke Pyongyang and justify martial law.
A Seoul court has sentenced former South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol to an additional 30 years in prison. The conviction stems from his alleged order to conduct a drone operation into North Korean territory in October 2024. Investigators stated that Yoon's intention was to provoke Pyongyang, thereby creating a pretext to declare martial law in December 2024. Former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun also received a 30-year sentence in connection with the same case. This latest ruling adds to the former president's existing legal penalties.
